• Ame [sic] de jeune fille (monologue) / 3. – Ce matin, c’est un notaire. Il met en valeur (sans jeu de mots) les / grands avantages que j’aurai à être : madame la notairesse ! Ma fortune quint- / uplée ! Des relations avec la ville et la cour.., enfin une vie si brillante / (comme les pannonceaux classiques) que j’en serais éblouie… C’est incroyable / comme ces messieurs nous jugent toutes : des êtres gentils, mais ne pensant / qu’au plaisir, sans cervelle et sans cœur. / Vers la fin de sa lettre, mon notaire barbotte, s’embrouille… et j’ai com- / pris que son étude est â [sic] payer. / Ce qu’il passerait sur ma laideur celui-là, mais je l’en priverai !

My fortune increased fivefold ! Relations with the city and the court…, finally such a brilliant life / (like the classic signs) that I would marvel… It’s incredible / how these gentlemen judge us all : [as] gentle beings, but thinking / only of pleasure, with no brain and no heart. / Toward the end of his letter, my bullhead notary , gets confusing.. and I under - / stood that his studies are to be paid for. / That passes over my unsightliness, that one, but I will not allow it !
